To give you a real-life example, imagine that you have a shop and each time a customer of yours buys something in your shop, you send them a message to thank them for being your loyal customers.
To be able to do that, your customers would have to give you their personal info (phone number, email address, postal address, etc.), that you would store somewhere insecure, let’s say in an excel file.
